Support Dignity Through Sanitation

Building Gender-Specific Toilets at Govt. Residential School Jolly, District Pakke Kessang, Arunachal Pradesh

At IT Nature Trust, our mission extends beyond conservation. We work at the intersection of environmental protection, community welfare, and education, ensuring that children in remote ecologically sensitive landscapes have access to the basic facilities they deserve.

One such community is the Govt. Residential School Jolly, located in District Pakke Kessang within the elephant corridor of the Pakke Tiger Reserve. Here, young children live and study in a challenging forest environment yet continue to pursue education with resilience and hope.
The Challenge: Only One Functional Toilet for the Entire School :

The school currently has only one functional toilet. This single unit is shared by students, teachers, and supporting staff, creating:

  • Overcrowding and unhygienic conditions

  • Lack of privacy and safety, especially for adolescent girls

  • Absenteeism during menstruation

  • Open defecation risks in a wildlife corridor

  • A learning environment that compromises dignity and health

The impact is most severe on girls, who often skip school due to lack of privacy and hygienic facilities.

Our Goal: Build Two Safe, Gender-Specific Toilets :

IT Nature Trust aims to construct two dedicated toilet units — one for girls and one for boys — built to suit the needs of a forest-based residential school.

The units will include:

  • Safe, durable construction

  • Dedicated water connection

  • Septic tank system

  • Long-term, low-maintenance design

This essential infrastructure will immediately improve students’ hygiene, comfort, and sense of dignity.

Why This Matters:

Sanitation is a basic right which essential for health, safety, and self-worth.
For children living in remote tribal and forest regions, it also protects them from environmental and wildlife-related risks.

With proper sanitation:

  • Girls regain dignity and comfort during menstruation

  • Attendance improves, especially among older students

  • Health risks reduce significantly

  • Children avoid unsafe areas near the elephant corridor

  • The school becomes a safer, more nurturing learning environment

How You Can Help :

We are seeking support through community crowdfunding to complete this important project. Your contribution will directly fund:

  • Construction materials

  • Plumbing and septic systems

  • Maintenance support

Even a small donation can make a huge difference in these children’s lives.
